Machete-wielding Buddhist monks and novices brawl over woman
Monks with Weapons! I once read an article about a Thailand monk hacking another monk in the ribs for ‘eating after noon’.
Soooo . . . as a Buddhist what can I say? No religion will bring happiness. No religion can guarantee a genuine and earnest search into one’s own situation.
I guess there are a lot of families who will place their kids into monestaries without any real desire by the child to be there. They do this for ‘good karma’. So these kids, with no real recognition of suffering are put into an environment in which they work day and night to eleminate problems for themselves and others. The result is more suffering!
So who is to blame? The monks? The parents? The Culture? The Big Bang?
Anyway, I think this kind of thing is interesting and I hope it doesn’t create more bad feelings towards religion in general and Buddhism specifically.

wow. yeah, many kids like these are ushered into a system of beliefs they don’t understand or feel drawn to practice. it’s not fair of the parents to do this. religion is a personal choice, and this is a bad side effect of focusing on only creating good results for the short term future rather than striving for spiritual growth on an individual level.

maybe the monks should form gangs, then they could make cool headlines in the newspapers like “teen-monk-slicer-gang ravages downtown with bloody axe mayhem!” i smell a plot for the next kung-fu movie masterpiece……
