Your Body is a River

Okay, I’m now teaching yoga in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe area, at my home. Last night I taught my first class to a relative stranger, a lady from my work - I’ll call her Senora. It went pretty well although I felt akward. At the end of the class I got some good feedback from Senora. Before starting the class, I told her that her body is a river. It flows from moment to moment and is always in change. So she shouldn’t think, “Oh, I can’t do this, my body just can’t do it”. This time is just one spot along the long river of what your body and your mind will be. Who you are now is just a bend in the river of your life. You are no longer the baby that is in the pictures, you became this instead. You are no longer the adolescent you started as, you became this instead. It is part of a continuium from maternity ward to the creamatorium - and on and on. The thing that really inspired Senora was that I said that in 7 years she would be a completely new person. I read somewhere that in a 7 year cycle all of the cells in your body are completely renewed. We will flow from this current body to a brand new one in 7 years - by applying a little bit of discipline we can change many things, about our body and mind - our anger can be overcome and our bone structure and posture can become more resiliant. She found this especially inspiring because she was divorced 7 years ago, almost to the date. After yoga she already felt like a new woman. That’s great! I’ll be seeing her again next week. Hopefully in the future, the asanas will become inspiring as well.

Are you interested in learning yoga with me in the Anusara tradition? I’ll be teaching a beginning class on Thursday at 7:00 pm and a flow class Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Please drop me a line if you are interested.

Namaste!
