Retreat Number Two
I will be going to New Mexico on a Therevada retreat with Leigh Brasington. Icecrown discovered Leigh in an article of Buddha Dharma Tricycle magazine and attended his Jhana retreat last year alone. Trav/s and I are going this year, but really I will be alone. We are to observe “Noble Silence”; there won’t be any verbal or physical contact with anyone for 10 days.
So obviously I won’t be posting anything for awhile. Last time I went on retreat I think I lost a few of my regular readers. Blog readers are very fickle, I think.
I’ll be taking lots of notes to share with you all. In the Vajrayana we actually practice all three paths. We practice Therevada, Mahayana and the Vajrayana in every session. They are not really seen as separate paths. However, I have never been exposed to the traditional Therevada Buddhist style and am very excited to connect more with that lineage.
Joke:
Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused novocaine at the dentist office?
He wanted to transcend dental medication.
Thanks Andrew, for that one.

i’m not sure, but i think the magazine was actually Shambhala Sun. i’ll have to check on it. also, please check with leigh before posting notes online, he might want to keep some information for those who attend retreats. but you know me, i’m overly careful

Might it be Tricycle magazine? I remember some fanfare when Leigh was profiled in that magazine.
I had a nice time visiting with Chris and Travis, when I drove up for the retreat’s opening dinner on Thursday. I even have some pics!

May your retreat be insightful and enlightening.
On your return, would you mind differentiating the practices you describe, “We practice Therevada, Mahayana and the Vajrayana in every session.” (in summary of course); as in my experience, the main differences between Theravada and Mahayana have been in ritual and in the Bodhisattva ideal. Vajrayana seems to differ again in that it is a more tantric pracice.

That’s right, it was Tricycle, not Buddha Dharma
