“Autodidacticism” - being self taught

Question: What do Joseph Conrad, Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Paul Allen, Agatha Christie Ernest Hemingway, and Joseph Campbell have in common?
Answer: They are all autodidacts! This means they gained their knowledge outside of the traditional education system. So do you need a degree? Maybe not. Many schools are offering their curriculum online for free these days! Sure, you can’t get accredited this way, but maybe that’s not so essential as most of us think.
